2006/2007 MODEL ARAB LEAGUE CHAIR APPLICATION

Applications for committee chairs are now being accepted for the following regional models:

Ohio
Michigan
Rocky Mountain
Southwest
West Coast

Seats that are not filled during the application process will be open to election at the model, so we recommend that all students interested in chairing apply ASAP.  Chairing is a fantastic way to assume leadership responsibilities at models and observe Model Arab League behind the scenes.

Applicants for chair positions must meet the following requirements:

Previous participant in at least one university Model Arab League.

Know the rules and procedures of Model Arab League.

Have evidence of an organizational and administrative record and capacity.

Willingness to work beyond the hours of the committee sessions to make the Model function smoothly.

To apply for a chair position, please submit an application to Mark Morozink with the following:

• Name
• School
• Year
• Time & Telephone number where you can be reached for a phone interview

Also please answer each of the following questions with a brief paragraph (or as appropriate):

1.Detail your previous experience with the Model Arab League.

2.What is your previous experience working with Parliamentary Procedure?

3.Is it ever acceptable to "bend the rules" of Model Arab League Parliamentary Procedure if you think it is in the best interest of the committee? If so, to what extent and under what circumstances is it acceptable?

4.In running a committee, what goals do you set? What would you like to see the committee do?

5.Many rules of procedure are used from the beginning of a committee session until a resolution is passed and sent to summit. Narrate the life of a resolution, starting by detailing how committee session should open, move on to the topic, then the resolution, then voting. Detail each specific motion and rule of procedure that need be used in the process.

6.What committees would you prefer to chair? See the agenda for topics; and note that Economic Affairs, Special Arab Summit on the Promotion of Women and the Arab Court of Justice will not be held at all models.

Acceptance will begin two months before each model on a rolling basis, so while late applications are welcomed, we cannot promise that spots will remain open.  Submit all application materials to Mark Morozink.
